Italy now has two very good alternatives for taking a high speed train.
One is by Trenitalia (Frecciarossa) and the other is company is Italo.
Having traveled on both, I could recommend either one to take.
Each train provides different classes of service.
Frecciarossa provides 4 different classes and Italo 3 different classes.
Italo provides the best luxury for the top class.
Taking these trains now allows travel between Milan & Rome in 3 hours, Bologna-Florence in 35 minutes, Naples to Rome in just over 1 hour.
Trains normally run frequently.
